Terhitec Oy Brandt Ab

In February 1972, the president of Finland, Urho Kekkonen, inaugurated the biggest Nordic factory of small boats, located in a small fishing village called Rymättylä. The factory got a neat start as the 10,000th boat was manufactured already two years after its inauguration. Korpivaara Oy started to develop a boat range in the mid-sixties to support its business of outboard engines. The founders wanted to establish a factory suited for big series of durable and high-quality boats. Korpivaara Oy’s subsidiary Konemuovi Oy started the production in 1972. The factory was the first of its kind in Europe, as the production technology was based on ABS-plastic (acryl, butadiene, styrene). This material proved to be hard, weather-proof, unbreakable and easy to service. The first models where Terhi 240, Terhi 310 and Terhi 390. These were sold to 11 countries and were an immediate success. The unsinkable hull was a good element of practical boats, made for harsh Nordic conditions. The company was acquired by Otto Brandt Group in 2005. The Otto Brandt Group had been in the leisure business for more than hundred years and also had extensive experience of the boating industry.
In 2009, the TerhiTec family was extended by two brands, SeaStar and Silver, which both fell well within the practical boating concept. Silver has since 1990 become a well-established product in Northern Europe. No wonder, it is the first AluFibre boat, that is, a boat that combines the advantages of an aluminium hull and a glassfibre interior. The result is a sturdy and comfortable boat that even looks good.
The production of SeaStar had moved abroad, but TerhiTec brought the production and development back to Finland. Based on extensive research and user experience, SeaStar has been optimized for transportation of people and material, for fishing and for commuting. In addition, the boats are based on values such as practicality, safety, walk through, loading capacity, economics and quietness.
Today, 40 years later and after 200,000 produced units, Terhi is the biggest Nordic manufacturer of smaller boats and also the only European producer of ABS-based boats. The markets, technologies and user needs have changed over the years, but Terhi remains unsinkable and designed for floating fun.
